Privacy Policy

Effective August 11, 2026

Life Beyond Addiction Foundation ("the Foundation," "we," "us," or "our") is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization (EIN 33-4613201). We respect the privacy of everyone who visits our website, applies for a scholarship, or supports our mission through a donation. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.

By using our website or otherwise providing information to us, you agree to the terms of this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use our website or provide us with personal information.

Information We Collect

We may collect the following categories of information:

  • Contact information you provide, such as your name, mailing address, email address, and phone number.
  • Donation information, including payment details processed by our third-party payment processor, donation amount, and giving history. We do not store full credit card or bank account numbers on our own servers.
  • Scholarship application information, including details you voluntarily share about your recovery journey, financial need, treatment program, and supporting documentation submitted as part of an application.
  • Communications you send us, such as emails, contact form submissions, or messages related to a gift, application, or inquiry.
  • Technical information collected automatically when you visit our website, such as IP address, browser type, device information, and general usage data (e.g., pages viewed, time on site) collected through standard web server logs or analytics tools.

How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Process and acknowledge donations, and issue tax-deductible giving receipts.
  • Review, process, and communicate with applicants about scholarship applications and awards.
  • Respond to inquiries, requests, and other communications.
  • Send updates about our programs, impact, and opportunities to give or get involved (you may opt out at any time).
  • Maintain accurate financial and donor records, as required for nonprofit accounting and audits.
  • Improve our website, programs, and services.
  • Comply with applicable laws, regulations, and legal obligations.

Scholarship Applicant Information

Information shared as part of a scholarship application — including details about substance use history, treatment, and personal circumstances — is sensitive, and we treat it accordingly. Access to applicant information is limited to Foundation board members and staff directly involved in reviewing and administering applications. We do not publish an applicant's personal or identifying details without their explicit consent. Aggregated, de-identified statistics (for example, the number of scholarships awarded or total funds disbursed) may be shared publicly as part of our impact reporting.

How We Share Information

We do not sell or rent personal information. We may share information with:

  • Service providers who help us operate — such as payment processors, email delivery services, and hosting providers — solely to perform services on our behalf and under obligations to protect your information.
  • Program partners, such as treatment centers or recovery programs, but only the minimum information necessary to coordinate a scholarship award, and only with the applicant's knowledge.
  • Legal or regulatory authorities, if required to comply with a law, subpoena, audit, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of the Foundation, our donors, applicants, or others.

Donor Privacy

We honor donor privacy preferences. If you request to remain anonymous or to not be listed publicly, we will honor that request in any public materials, including our website and annual reports. We do not share donor contact or giving information with other organizations for their own marketing purposes.

Cookies and Analytics

Our website may use cookies or similar technologies to remember preferences and understand how visitors use our site. You can set your browser to refuse cookies, though some parts of the site may not function as intended without them. We may use third-party analytics tools to help us understand aggregate website usage; these tools do not identify you personally.

Data Security

We take reasonable administrative, technical, and physical measures designed to protect personal information from unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, or destruction. Payment transactions are processed through a PCI-compliant third-party payment processor. However, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Your Choices

  • You may opt out of email communications at any time using the unsubscribe link, or by contacting us.
  • You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of personal information we hold about you, subject to our recordkeeping obligations as a nonprofit (e.g., financial and tax records related to a donation).
  • You may ask us to stop sharing your name publicly in connection with a gift.

Children's Privacy

Our website and programs are not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we learn that we have inadvertently collected such information, we will take steps to delete it.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or for other operational, legal, or regulatory reasons. The "Effective" date above indicates when this policy was last revised. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
